Oscar Barillas is a Guatemalan native who lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. Barillas is a multidisciplinary artist who received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art. His work has been featured in the Reinberger Galleries, Waterloo Arts, and Front Room Gallery.
Barillas creates artworks that celebrate the cultural, social, and political constructs of the Western world, and delve into concepts and histories inspired by his Mayan roots. Each drawing that Barillas creates combine recollections, events, observations, writing, and music from different cultures. The vibrant colors in his drawings are inspired by the saturated tones of the customs and traditions of the Guatemalan people. In his art, Barillas hopes to create a tangible point of access where memory and the imagination can come together.
